Congress president Rahul Gandhi on visit to Rajasthan has reassured the Alwar gang-rape survivor and her family that they would receive justice. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot
The Congress government in the state and the police force have come under fire from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati for allegedly suppressing news of the attack.
Speaking to the media at Alwar, Rahul Gandhi said, “The family talked about nyay (justice). Justice will be done. Action will be taken against perpetrator”.
He said as soon as he heard about the incident (Alwar gang rape) he spoke to CM Ashok Gehlot. “This is not a political issue for me. I met the victim’s family and they have sought justice which will be done,” Gandhi said.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who was also at the press conference, said, “We will ensure maximum punishment to the accused”.
