The Congress party has come out in strong defence of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram after he was arrested by the CBI in the INX media case. The party line was reflected on the twitter handle

At the press conference, Congress Communications in charge Randeep Surjewala accused the CBI and ED officials who arrested P Chidambaram of trying to please their political masters. He said that the hurry in which the officials arrested the former finance and home minister in the night was evidence of the agency officials trying to please the government in power.
He concluded by adding that he hoped these officials would tell Prime Minister Narendra Modi that there was no evidence against Chidambaram.
Surjewala slammed agencies for acting on Indrani Mukerjea’s word by saying : “A seasoned man with 40 years’ dedication to public was arrested on the statement of a jailed woman who has been charged with murdering her own daughter,” he said, adding that there was no evidence against him in the FIR, nor was there a charge sheet against him”.
