There is an adage success has many friends but failures have none . This axiom could be seen in the tweet by Jemima Goldsmith moments after it became apparent that people of Pakistan have in the polls have voted for the PTI ( Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf led by Imran Khan and he is widely tipped to become the next Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Jemima, the eldest child of Lady Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart and financier Sir James Goldsmith (1933–1997) was married to Pakistan cricket superstar Imran Khan in 1995. In 1996, Imran formed his political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jemima took active part in it.
But soon found that life in Pakistan was not an easy one to handle and her jewish heritage put her in a spot of bother. In the political arena , this jewish link was used by Imran’s political rivals question their credibility in Pakistani politics and their alleged tilt towards the Jewish lobby.
So after nine years Jemima and Imran’s fairytale marriage ended in divorce in 2004. Leaving the superstar alone to fight the political battle.
So after 22 years struggle , Imran has won the confidence of the people of Pakistan and Jemima was prompt in congratulating Khan on his win. And which makes one wonder whether it is the fondness for Imran Khan or his position as the next Prime Minister of Pakistan?
22 years later, after humiliations, hurdles and sacrifices, my sons’ father is Pakistan’s next PM. It’s an incredible lesson in tenacity, belief & refusal to accept defeat. The challenge now is to remember why he entered politics in the 1st place. Congratulations @ImranKhanPTI
