The Indian women’s hockey team’s glorious campaign at the 18th Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018 came to an end on a dismal note. It saw them lose 1-2 to Japan in a well-contested at the Gelora Bung Karno Hockey Field. Once again it was case of so near yet so far for India.
The Japanese team secured their victory with two goals from penalty corners, which were scored by Minami Shimizu (11′) and Motomi Kawamura (44′) while India’s only goal was scored by Neha Goyal (25′).
The loss meant that the Indian team secured a silver medal at the Asian Games for the first time since 1998, when they had lost to Republic of Korea by the same margin.
Before going into the games, Indian fans were expecting two Golds from the men’s and women’s team’s but that did not happen. The men’s team was shocked by Malaysia in the semis after been unstoppable in the league games .
India’s medal tally to has risen significantly with spate of medals in the kitty . At the time of filing this report the total tally stands at 65. 13 Gold , 23 Silver and 29 Bronze medals .
