Indian badminton star Pusarla V Sindhu took a firm step in her quest for Olympic gold in the women’s singles badminton, easily disposing off the challenge of Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the women’s singles badminton quarter-finals, in Tokyo,

Sindhu, who won silver at the 2016 Games at Rio de Janeiro, won 21-13, 22-20 for a place in the semi-finals.

She will next meet the winner of the other quarter-final between Thailand’s Ratchanok Inthanon and Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying.

The Indian ace was too fast and accurate, repeatedly catching the Japanese on the wrong foot with her crisp cross-court smashes.

Going by her current form, Sindhu in absence of Spaniard and her nemesis on many times Carolina Marin is now hot favourite to win the Gold medal.
