Chennai Super Kings came out with all guns blazing as they thrashed Delhi Capitals by 91 runs in the 55th match of The Tata IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium .
Opting to bowl after winning the toss , DC Skipper Rishabh Pant found the going tough as CSK openers began on a positive and aggressive way. The opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad 41 ( 33 balls , 4 fours, 1 six) and Kiwi Devon Conway a superb blistering 87 ( 49 balls, 7 fours and 5sixes) put on 110 for the first wicket in only 11 overs. Setting the stage for the final onslaught later on. Shivam Dube chipped in 32, Ambati Rayudu ( 5) , Mooen Ali ( 9) , Robin Uthappa ( 0) were dismissed going for big shots. But the legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni was running between wickets like a20 year old not a 40 year old. Dhoni did what does best finish in style in a quick unbeaten 8 ball 21 ( 1 four and 2 sixes). CSK powered to a imposing 208/ 6 in their 20 overs. DC skipper Rishabh Pant knew the match was as good as over .
DC bowling figures read :Anrich Nortje 3/ 42 ( 4 overs) Khaleel Ahmed 2/ 28 ( 4 overs) , Shardul Thakur 0/ 38 ( 3 overs), Axar Patel 0/ 23 ( 3 overs) , Kuldeep Yadav 0/ 43 ( 3 overs) , Mitchell Marsh 1/ 34 ( 3 overs)
In reply DC batting simply collapsed against the imposing total of CSK. With the run- rate high and needed a good power play to stay in the hunt the Delhi batting slumped . Opener Srikar Bharat ( 9), in-form David Warner ( 19) , Mitchell Marsh ( 25) once again failed to get a big score after getting a start. Yet to score a fifty, DC skipper Rishabh Pant fell for ( 21) ,big-hitting Rovman Powell out for ( 3) . The DC chase was all but over. Shardul Thakur threw his bat around for his ( 24) but that was simply not enough. DC bolwed out for a disappointing 117/ 10 in 17. 4 overs. CSK winning by a convincing 91 runs.
CSK bowlers were all over DC ; Mooen Ali outstanding with figures of 3/13 (4 overs), Mukesh Choudhary 2/22( 3 overs), Simarjeet Singh 2/27 ( 4 overs) , Maheesh Theekshana 1/ 29 ( 4 overs), Dwayne Bravo 2/ 24 ( 2. 4 overs)
