With the Pahalggam terror attack that saw loss of 26 lives fresh in mind the India versus Pakistan Asia Cup encounter faced severe backlash. The BCCI  was slammed hard for their insensitivity towards the terror victims. A brazen BCCI  went ahaed with the match citing ICC rules .

The tension was palpable on the ground too as  two teams hardly exchanged any greetings  during their respective training sessions and also during the toss the two skippers did not  see eye to eye.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. The young team  was under pressure straight away as they lost their first wicket in the first over to Hardik Pandya. Batsman Siam Ayub out with a soft dismissal for 0. It was soon 6/ 2  with Mohammad Haris out for 3 to Bumrah. Sahibzada Farhan tried to put innings on track with 40 ( 44 balls, 1 fours, 3 sixes). But ran out of partners soon after.

Fakhar Zaman scored 17. Skipper Salman Agha out for mere 3 . Hasan Nawaz (5) , Mohammad Nawaz (0). The India vs Pak contest turning out to be one- sided yet again. Faheem Ashraf ( 11) , Sufiyan Muqeem ( 10). A cameo an unbeaten one by fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi 33 ( 16 balls , 4 sixes) helped Pakistan reach 127/9 in their 20 overs. Given India’s batting prowess it was not at all a total

India bowling attack was sharp be it spinners and seamers . All had a ball. Kuldeep Yadav led the way with excellent figures of 3/18 while Axar Patel bagged 2/18 and Varun Chakravarthy took 1/24. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah (2/28) and Hardik Pandya (1/34) were also among the wickets

In reply , India were clinical like theior bowling. Opener Abhishek Sharma set the tone with an aggressive 13 ball 31 ( 4 fours, 2 sixes). Shubman Gill was out for ( 10). Tilak Varma was out for 31 off as many balls. India was in charge. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav was in prime touch and scored his highest against Pakistan.

SKY went off to finish the matcn in style with a huge six and remained unbetaen on 47 . Shivam Dube was the other not out batsman with 10. India reaching 131/3 in 15. 5 overs.

Pakistan bowling barring Saim Ayub 3/35 struggled . Shaheen Afridi 0/23( 2 overs) , Abrar Ahmed 0/16 ( 4 overs), Mohammad Nawaz 0/27 ( 3 overs), Sufiyan Muqeem 0/29 ( 2.5 overs)

Interestingly, moment after SKY hit the winning six both Indian batsmen left the ground and went stright to the dressing room. The Pakistan team went near the India dressing room to handshake but were bluntly refused  .  The no handshalke by Team India after the win left the Pakistan team fuming and coach Mike Hesson disappointed.
