Australia  ended the much hyped Ashes series in spectacular fashion as they beat England in the fifth and final Test At SCG by five wickets . Thus clinching the series with an absolute dominance 4-1 score-line .

Earlier England Skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first .  The Three lions managed a ratherdecent total of  384/10. Seasoned Joe root led the  English charge with a majestic hundred a big one too 160 . Harry Brook  finally had big kncok but not a ton though a fine 84. Rest  of the batting unit did not fire as required . Openers – Zak Crawley ( 16), Ben Duckett ( 27), Jacob Bethell ( 10) . Ben Stokes ( 0)  wicket- keeper  Jamie Smith ( 46) , Will Jacks ( 27) , Brydon Carse ( 1) , Matthew Potts not out  ( 1) , Josh Tongue ( 0)

The Aussie bowling  figures : Michael Neser 4/60, Mitchell Starc 2/88, Scott Boland 2/85 , Cameron Green 1/85,  Beau Webster 0/20, Marnus Labuschagne 1/13, Travis Head  0/19

In reply to the English total the Aussies posted a mammoth 567/10 thereby putting the pressure on England to save the Test. The nemesis at the top Travis Head was at it again as he smashed a blazing innings of 163 . Fellow opener  Jake Weatherald ( 21) ,  Marnus Labuschagne ( 48) , Michael Neser ( 24), Skipper Steve Smith piled on the English agony scoring a superb ton 138.

Playing his final Test before retirement Usman Khawaja scored ( 17) , Alex Carey ( 16), Cameron Green looked good for a big one but fell for 37 . All- rounder Beau Webster powered the lower order with an unbeaten and impressive Knock of 71 , Mitchell Starc ( 5), Scott Boland ( 0). Australia had taken a crucial 183 run lead .

English bowlers were sent on a leather hunt . Brydon Carse 3/130, Matthew Potts 0/141,  Josh Tongue 3/97, Ben Stokes 2/95, Will Jacks 1/34, Jacob Bethell 1/52

With 183 runs behind England need a strong batting show to make match of it . And innings that would decide the fate of the match . BUt the series which was nightmare for three lions  ended thet way. The batting in the second innings could manage a total of 342 /10 . Opener Zak Crawley out cheaply for ( 1) , Ben Duckett  (42), Jacob Bethell playing the innings of life a fine and fighting 154, Joe Root after a super first innings show out for ( 6), Harry Brook ( 42)  , Will Jacks ( 0), Jamie Smith ( 26), horror match for Skipper Ben Stokes out for ( 1) , Brydon Carse ( 16) , Matthew Potts not out ( 18), Josh Tongue ( 6). Thus setting Australia target of 160  on the final day.

Australian bowling was relentless  – Mitchell Starc 3/72 ( player of the series for his astonishing 31 wickets), Scott Boland 2/46, Michael Neser 1/55, Cameron Green 0/40 , Beau Webster 3/64, Travis Head 0/25, Marnus Labuschagne 0/15

Chasing 160 for win Australia over came some jitters on the way before wrapping  up the Test before Tea on the final day .  Travis Head ( 29), Jake Weatherald ( 34), Marnus Labuschagne ( 37), Skipper Steve Smith ( 12), Usman Khawaja ( 6) in his final innings. Alex  Carey  not out 16 and all- rounder Cameron Green not out 22 ensured no further hiccups as Australia finally got home by 5 wickets . Reaching 161/5.

English bowlers tried hard but the target was not much .  Brydon Carse 0/51, Josh Tongue 3/42, Jacob Bethell 0/16,  Will Jacks 1/42, Joe Root 0/6
