Air Pollution : Supreme Court Gives 24 Hours To Centre , Delhi Government To Come Up With A Serious Plan, Observes Nothing Is Happening

The Supreme Court has given 24 hours to the Centre and the Delhi government to come up with a serious plan for implementation of air pollution control measures.

The Court tells the Centre and Delhi government that if they fail to take measures to control pollution, then the court will pass an order. The Court will hear the matter tomorrow at 10 am.

The SC tells Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and adjoining areas that in an emergency situation you have to work in emergent ways. “We cannot enforce or infuse creativity in your bureaucracy, you have to come up with some steps,” SC tells Centre.

Solicitor General for Centre tells Supreme Court says that highest functionaries ere equally worried about pollution and there needs to be reworking of power structure. SG seeks time to talk to highest authority &come out with additonal measures to deal with air pollution

Centre tells Supreme Court that industries found non-compliant were closed and State govts were intimated. Things are going on at jet speed and officers are working round the clock, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for Centre tells Supreme Court.

We feel there is nothing happening, in spite of air pollution levels rising, Supreme Court observes.

Supreme Court also pulled up  the Delhi government for opening the schools amid the rising air pollution levels in the city. “We are serious about industrial and vehicular pollution. You cannot fire bullets from our shoulders, you have to take steps. Why are schools open? ”

After the SC rap, All schools in Delhi to be closed from tomorrow till further orders, due to current air pollution levels in the city, Environment Minister Gopal Rai told ANI
