India beat West Indies by five wickets in the first ODI to go 1-0 up in the three-match series . Ishan Kishan top-scored with a 46-ball 52 as India chased down the small target of 114 with 163 balls to spare.

Captain Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja remained not out on 12 and 16 respectively.

Earlier, West Indies were bundled out for mere total thanks to Ravindra Jadeja (3/37 in 6 overs) and Kuldeep Yadav’s web of spin (4/6 in 4 overs) setting the way for a comfortable India win.

India captain Rohit Sharma didn’t expect the Kensington Oval track to deteriorate so much but defended his decision to promote ODI specialists ahead of him and Virat Kohli in the first match.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have 76 international hundreds between them, decided to give game time to middle-order

“I never thought the pitch would play like that, it was the team’s need to bowl first. The pitch had everything for seamers and spinners, our guys did well to restrict them to that score,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
