The AIADMK General Council has passed resolutions that would consolidate the hold of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and O Pannerselvam on the party. The resolution too in another major move  sacked  VK Sasikala from all her posts in the party. The party also decided that any announcements made by Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dhinakaran would not be binding on the party workers and office-bearers anymore.

According to various media reports, The General Council amended the party by-laws to strike down the post of General Secretary, which was what Sasikala held. The party also passed a resolution that made the late former party supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa the permanent General Secretary of the party.

The AIADMK also vowed that it would now begin the fight with the Election Commission to bring back the party symbol – the two leaves, after it was taken away during the split that occurred between the two factions of the party.

The Madras High Court had yesterday dismissed an appeal from the Dhinakaran camp to stop the General Council meeting from happening, but the court also said that the outcome of the meeting would come under legal scrutiny.

Dhinakaran reiterated his stance that he would begin work to oust this government as he continued his offensive on Panneerselvam and Palaniswami.

“The party workers have told me that they do not want this government and have asked me to bring Amma’s government back,” he said.

Dhinakaran also attacked Tamil Nadu governor Vidyasagar Rao for not carrying out his duties appropriately. He said, “In Tamil Nadu, there is no respect for the post of the governor anymore, how can he allow this to continue when the government does not have the required majority in the house?”

Dhinakaran said the current government has completely forgotten about the ideals that Jayalalithaa ran the government with, citing the example of the NEET exam, of which the late Chief Minister was an ardent critic, saying that it was unsuitable considering the social ecosystem in Tamil Nadu.

Dhinakaran also rubbished claims that he is hand-in-glove with the DMK, saying that he would work to bring down the government, but that would not mean that he aligns with the DMK.

“My sole aim is to bring the rule of Amma back to Tamil Nadu, that is what I want, that is what the party workers want and that is what the people of the state want. They don’t want the rule of EPS and OPS.”
