Versatile Vidya Balan Turns Producer With Short Film ‘Natkhat’
Versatile Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, who will be soon seen playing an ISRO scientist in her upcoming film ‘Mission Mangal’, has now entered the short film biz with ‘Natkhat’. She has teamed up with entrepreneur, philanthropist Ronnie Screwvala for the same.
Vidya’s upcoming project not only marks her first attempt in a short film but also her first stint as a producer.
“It’s a beautiful and powerful story that called out to me in a way that made me want to act in it and also turn producer. And who better than RSVP to do it with!” Vidya expressed.
Made specifically for international film festivals, ‘Natkhat’ will address a number of issues such as patriarchy, gender inequality, rape culture, domestic abuse, compartmentalization by men in different relationships with women; and in doing so surpasses all possible barriers, be it age, gender, urban-rural divide and nationality.
Vidya had established herself in Bollywood with many blockbuster movies starting in 2005 with Parineeta with Saif Alikhan and Sanjay Dutt, and followed it with a leading role in the top-grossing comedy film Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) with superstar Sanjay Dutt.
breakthrough was followed by roles in the romantic comedies Heyy Babyy (2007) and Kismat Konnection (2008) which had negative reviews.
Vidya went on to establish herself as a leading actress of Hindi cinema by playing five consecutive roles to wide critical acclaim in the 2009 drama Paa, the 2010 black comedy Ishqiya, the 2011 semi-biographical thriller No One Killed Jessica, the 2011 biopic The Dirty Picture, and the 2012 thriller Kahaani.
