Reactions  from the political leaders are coming fast on the unfortunate death of the Unnao rape victim after she was set on fire by the accused. In her message,  West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief in a tweet.

“Sad. Cruelty has no limitations #Unnao,” the chief minister said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary in- charge of Uttar Pradesh ( East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra  questioned the Uttar Pradesh government as to why the Unnao gang rape victim was not given security keeping in mind a similar incident that took place earlier in the same district.

She later on met the family members of the victim during her quick visit to Unnao.

In a tweet, she said: “Why the victim of Unnao gangrape case was not given security keeping in mind an earlier incident of Unnao? What action has been taken on the police official who refused to register an FIR? What steps are being taken by the government to stop crime against the women, which take place on a daily basis?”

She was referring to another such alleged attack in the district in July when the car in which a woman, who had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar of raping her, was hit by a truck.

In another tweet Priyanka Gandhi said: “I pray to God to give courage to the family members of Unnao victim.”

The Congress general secretary also went on to say that it is everyone’s collective failure as a society that the victim was not able to get justice.

“At the social level, we all are guilty, but at the same time, this also points out to the hollow law and order mechanism in UP,” she tweeted.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in protest over the Unnao incident sat on a ‘dharna’ outside the Vidhan Bhavan in Lucknow , after the death of the Unnao rape victim in Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

“The incident has pained us all deeply, even the doctors couldn’t save the girl. Samajwadi Party will observe this day as Black Day and protest against the death of the rape victim tomorrow (Sunday). This is not the first of its kind incident in this government. The Yogi Aditynath government is solely responsible for the death of the victim. The women of the state are unsafe till the time CM, Home Secretary and DGP are sitting on their posts. The accused in this case are related to the ruling BJP,” Yadav said.

Accompanied by senior party leaders, Yadav squatted before the main entrance of the Vidhan Sabha. He also further said to ANI :” Till the day Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, state Home Secretary and DGP don’t resign, justice will not be done. Tomorrow we will conduct a shokh sabha in all districts of the state over Unnao rape case”.
