Mumbai Indians dashed Delhi Capitals dream of play-offs spot as they beat them by 5 wickets at Wankhede Stadium in the 69th match of the Tata IPL 2022 . The Mumbai Indians win means the Royal Challengers Bangalore now seal the fourth place of the Play- offs.
MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and fielded first. His bowlers did a fine job in restricting the DC batting line-up. Capitals suffered a jolt early on when in-from David Warner ( 5) and Mitchell Marsh (0 ) fell early. Back in side Prithvi Shaw hit ( 24). Skipper Rishabh Pant scored a 33 ball 39 . Sarfaraz Khan ( 10) . Big- hitting Rovman Powell gave the innings the push with his 34 ball 43 ( 1 four and 4 sixes), Axar Patel chipped in with 19 not out and Kuldeep Yadav not out 1 . Delhi Capitals could manage 159/ 7 in their 20 overs.
For Mumbai Indians , Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with 3/25 ( 4 overs), Ramandeep Singh 2/29 (2 overs), Daniel Sams 1/30 ( 4 overs), Mayank Markande 1/26 (4 overs), Hrithik Shokeen 0/34 (4 overs), Riley Meredith 0/9 ( 2 over)
In reply Mumbai Indians lost Skipper Rohit Sharma, who has had a forgettable season for mere ( 2). But opener Ishan Kishan (48) and young Dewald Brevis (37) kept MI in the hunt, it was Tim David’s 11-ball 34 ( 2 fours , 4 sixes) blazing cameo that proved to be the game changer and left fans wondering why he did not feature regularly in their line- up form the start of the season. Tim David had made his presence felt with his batting prowess. Tilak Varma scored a crucial 17-ball 21. Ramandeep Singh not out 13 and Daniel Sams not out 0 saw MI home in 19.1 overs reaching 160/5 .
For DC the bowling figures were : Anrich Nortje 2/37 (4 overs), Shardul Thakur 2/32 (3 overs), Kuldeep Yadav 1/ 33 ( 4 overs), Axar Patel 0/ 26 (3 overs) , Khaleel Ahmed 0/ 24 ( 3.4 overs) , Mitchell Marsh 0/ 7 ( 2 overs)
There was captaincy judgement error form DC skipper Rishabh Pant With MI at 95 for 3 in 14.3 overs, DC skipper Rishabh Pant made a strategic blunder as he refused to go for DRS after David nicked the first ball of his innings but the on- field umpire didn’t give him out. It came back to haunt DC as David slammed fours and sixes at will to bring down the equation to 15 off 14 balls.

Ramandeep then provided the finishing touch with a six-ball 13. DC finished with 14 points to remain in the fifth spot, while RCB joined Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants into the play-offs with 16 points. Mumbai Indians finished 10th in what had been truly forgettable season for them. Only solace ending the season with a win.
