Punjab Kings  produced yet another clinical show to win their second consecutive match of the Tata IPL 2026 as they beat five- time winners  Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets  in a encounter in sultry Chennai .

Earlier, Punjab Kings Skipper Shreyas won the toss and opted to bowl first. CSK lost Sanju Samson early yet again for  7. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 28 , Kartik Sharma ( 1), Sarfaraz Khan ( 32). The impetus to the CSK innings was provided by  Ayush Mhatre who impressed with a fine knock of 73 ( 43 balls , 6 fours, 5 sixes).  Shivam Dube  gave finishing touches  with a quick impactful  unbeaten 45  ( 28 balls , 5 fours 1 six)  , Prashant Veer not out 6 . CSK finishing strongly with a total of 209/5 in their 20 overs.

Punjab Kings  Bowling :  Arshdeep Singh 0/41 ( 4 overs), Xavier Bartlett 1/48 ( 4 overs), Marco Jansen 0/43 ( 4 overs), Vijaykumar Vyshak 2/28 ( 4 overs), Yuzvendra Chahal 1/21( 3 overs)  Marcus Stoinis 0/17 ( 1 over)

Arya was the first to be out .  But  Prabhsimran Singh carried on the momentum with 43 ( 34 balls , 6 fours 1 six) . The hero of the first match Cooper Connolly chipped in with 36 ( 22  balls , 5 fours) . The chase was truly on for the Kings . CSK bowling was tested .

Punjab Kings Skipper Shreyas Iyer kept the team on the hunt with an attacking innings 50 (29 balls , 4 fours 3 sixes) . Just when the Kings  needed him to stay around a bit  he was out. Iyer was the fourth wicket to fall with the total at 186 /4 ( 17.0 over) . It was soon to be five as Nehal Wadhera was dismissed for 10  with the  total reading 186/5 in 17. 1 overs.

The onus of win  now rested on the shoulders of Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis  and the duo did not let any other wicket to fall.  Shashank not out 14 ( 6 balls , 2 fours ) and Stoinis not out 9 ( 3 balls , 2 fours ) saw Kings home . Punjab reaching 210/5 in 18. 4 overs.  For CSK it was the second straight loss having lost their first match to Rajasthan Royals .
