Suspension Of 12 Rajya Sabha MP’s : Opposition Firm On Its Stand, Will Not Allow Parliament To Function; Government Urges Rethink
The Opposition have rejected the government’s invitation to leaders of four parties to resolve the issue of suspension of 12 Rajya Sabha MPs, sources said. The move virtually seals the fate of the winter session with three days to go.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi had invited leaders of four political parties for a meeting on Monday morning convened by Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal to discuss and resolve the stalemate over the suspension of MPs. After the meeting the stand was unanimous – Will not allow parliament to function
We want to talk to the Opposition parties whose Rajya Sabha MPs are suspended to find a solution. They (Opposition) are boycotting the meeting, they also boycotted Constitution Day event…they should understand that the public is also boycotting them, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi told ANI
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, in a letter to Joshi, said it is unfortunate that the government has invited only four parties and not all opposition leaders, who are unitedly seeking the revocation of suspensions.
Kharge told ANI, The Govt has called for a meeting of 4 Opposition parties on the suspension of 12 Rajya Sabha MPs. This is a conspiracy to divide the Opposition. All Opposition parties are united on this issue. We’ve written to the Govt to call an all-party meeting
It depends upon Govt as to how to run the Lok Sabha. The govt hasn’t called us for any meeting as the matter is of Rajya Sabha, Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was quoted as saying by ANI
Backing the opposition stand , Snajya Raut, Shiv Sena , Rajya Sabha MP told ANI, We will not attend the meeting called by the Government. We will demand the resignation of MoS Home Ajay Kumar Misra and revocation of suspension of 12 Opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha. We will not let both Houses of Parliament function.
