Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fervent plea in his address to the nation for a self-reliant India mission has come under fire from the opposition.

Taking a dig at the self- reliant call, Shashi Tharoor, Senior Congress leader and three -time Lok Sabha MP from , Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, said that the self- reliant India mission, is  nothing new but a repackaged version of “Make in India” initiative.

Tharoor tweeted a Hindi couplet to express his views on the subject.

The couplet roughly translates to: “He sold the old couplet/lion with a new name; He sold piles of dreams again.”
The Prime Minister had announced a Rs 20 lakh crore special economic package for the country to become “self-reliant” and deal with COVID-19 crisis.
