Shashi Tharoor Says Attack On His Office, Assault On Democracy and Freedom Of Expression
Shashi Tharoor, Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram, has lashed out the BJP Yuva Morcha for vandalising his office and even threatening to kill him.
This incident comes after Tharoor’s recent remark that If BJP came to power in 2019 they would turn India into Hindu Pakistan. The Congress party had advised him to be cautious while hitting out at the BJP.
The Congress leader alleged that the activists drove away the locals who were waiting with their petitions outside his office, calling it an assault on democracy and on freedom of expression. “We have taken it to the Kerala police,” Tharoor said.
Tharoor took to twitter and mentioned the incident in his office . And in another tweet said BJP’s answer to the question about giving up the dream of a Hindu Rashtra was vandalism and violence
1/2 Today @YUVAMORCHABJP vandals attacked my constituency office in Thiruvananthapuram. They poured black engine oil on signs, doors, walls & gate, drove away innocent citizens waiting with their petitions, put up offensive banners & shouted slogans asking me to go to Pakistan.

2/2 We have all been warned. The BJP’s answer to the simple question “have you given up the dream of a Hindu Rashtra?” is apparently vandalism & violence. That is the face they have shown inThiruvananthapuram today. Most Hindus will say these Sanghi goondas do not represent us.

Meanwhile, Amidst the furore over Tharoor’s remark, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had recently called Tharoor a “role model” for professionals seeking to work for the party. Rahul was speaking at the first annual national leadership meeting of the All India Professional Congress (AIPC). Tharoor is the chairman of the AIPC.
