Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Punjab’s Ferozepur, which was supposed to be held on Wednesday, has been postponed, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said.

Modi, who was travelling by road in Punjab, was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes due to blockade by some protesters, an incident the Union Home Ministry described as a “major lapse” in his security. Later Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quoted by ANI as saying, “Apne CM ko thanks kehna, ki mein Bhatinda airport tak zinda laut paaya. Tell your CM thanks that I was able to return to Bhatinda airport alive.”

In a statement, the Home Ministry said after the “major security lapse” in the prime minister’s travel in Punjab, his convoy decided to return. The ministry also asked the Punjab government to fix responsibility for the lapse and take strict action, the statement said.

BJP president JP Nadda said, “Punjab CM Channi refused to get on phone to address matter, state police was instructed to prevent people from attending PM’s rally. It is a big security lapse as protesters were given access to PM’s route while Punjab chief secy, DGP gave assurances to SPG that route was clear.”

Reacting to the incident Former Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh was quoted by ANI saying Complete failure of law & order in Punjab, CM & HM Punjab, in particular. When you can’t provide smooth passage to PM of the country and that too just 10km from the Pakistan border, you have no right to stay in office and should quit!

The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a detailed report on today’s security breach in Punjab. Such dereliction of security procedure in the Prime Minister’s visit is totally unacceptable and accountability will be fixed, Union Home Minister Amit Shah quoted as saying by ANI

“What has happened today is just not acceptable. It’s against Panjabiyat. A secure passage for the Prime Minister of India to address BJP’s political rally in Ferozpur should have been ensured. That’s how democracy works,” tweeted Congress leader Sunil Jakhar

Never before in the history of our country, a state govt knowingly constructed a scenario where the PM will be brought to harm. We know Congress hates Modi, but today they tried to harm the PM of India, Union Minister & BJP leader Smriti Irani while addressing the media was quoted as  saying by ANI
