Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s party pictures and a video at a nightclub in Kathmandu has sparked off a political storm . BJP was quick to question him as the party is in trouble and Rajasthan where the party is in power is tense due to communal clashes.

Union law minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted, “Vacation, Party, Holiday, Pleasure Trip, Private Foreign Visit etc are nothing new to the nation now…” As a private citizen there’s no issue at all but when an MP, a permanent boss of a national political party who keeps preaching others

The Congress on the other hand has defended the Gandhi scion, But do let me know so that we can change our status & civilizational practices of attending marriages of our friends & family members, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress General Secretary, on Congress Communications in- charge told a press conference.

Surjewala further said, Rahul Gandhi went to a friendly country Nepal to participate in a pvt marriage function of a friend who also happens to be a journalist… last I checked, having family & friends & attending marriage ceremonies is a matter of our culture &civilization. It has still not become a crime in this country… to attend a marriage celebration. Maybe after today, BJP may decide it is illegal to attend a marriage & a crime to have friends.

Gandhi, who arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport Monday evening, is likely to visit some tourist spots during his stay in Nepal.

According to The Kathmandu Post newspaper, the Congress leader is in Kathmandu to attend the wedding of his Nepali friend Sumnima Udas.

“We had extended an invitation to Gandhi to attend the wedding of my daughter,” said Bhim Udas, Sumnima’s father who also served as Nepal’s ambassador to Myanmar. Sumnima, a former CNN correspondent, is getting married to Nima Martin Sherpa, the report said.

The marriage function is planned for Tuesday and a reception will be held on May 5 at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Bauddha, the bride’s father Bhim said.

Some other Indian VVIPs have also arrived for the wedding, the report said. Earlier in August 2018, Gandhi had visited Kathmandu on his way to Kailash Mansarovar, the report added
