Prime Minister Narendra Modi Conducts Aerial Survey In West Bengal, Announces Rs 1000 Crore Interim Financial Assistance

The death toll in West Bengal rose to 80 due to the devastating impact of Cyclone Amphan. On the request of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to visit the state and see the first hand the damage , Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew into Kolkata in special IAF plane.

Later accompanied by Mamata Banerjee conducted aerial survey of the districts ravaged by the extremely severe cyclone.

After conducting the aerial survey , Prime Minister Narendra Modi  announced a interim financial assistance of Rs 1000 crores to aid the relief and rehabilitation efforts. PM disaster relief fund will give and ex gratia of 2 lakh to the kin of the dead and 50,000 to the kin of injured.

Modi further said ” “I conducted an aerial survey today with West Bengal CM and Guv, we took stock of the situation.CM has given me a report of the damage…we will look to do a swift survey. A central team will visit WB and conduct a survey, we will work towards recovery and reconstruction.”

Standing behind the people of West Bengal in these trying times, Modi said : I assure my brothers and sisters of West Bengal that the entire country stands with you in these difficult times

 

Banerjee had earlier announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and a corpus fund of Rs 1,000 crore for preliminary restoration work in the affected areas.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi was received by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on arrival at Kolkata Airport.
