Pakistan In Turmoil : After Arrest Former PM Nawaz Sharif, Daughter Moved To Adiala Jail

Embattled  former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam were shifted to Adiala jail in Rawalpindi  after they were arrested on their return to the country from London. Meanwhile, as Pakistan General Elections date July 25 nears, Nawaz Sharif  is facing attacks from his from political rivals too.

Leading the charge is  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, who  stated that former prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should return Rs 300 billion which he plundered.

Addressing workers at Karachi Company, Khan said a change in Pakistan would be evident on July 25 The day Pakistan votes .  Promising to tackle corruption tooth and nail, Khan promised to strengthen the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). “I would hand over tax evaders to FIA and NAB,” said Khan.

Imran , the flamboyant cricket superstar turned politician also took a dig at Sharif on twitter when he tweeted :

Both Sharif, 68, and Maryam, 44, have been sentenced by an accountability court to 10 and 7 years in prison respectively. The two were convicted on July 6 in the Avenfield properties case linked to the Sharif family’s ownership of four luxury flats in London. The duo can now request for better class jail facility if they want to do so, according to reports.

According to jail manual, they can be medically examined at the jail hospital. Maryam is expected to be moved later to Sihala Rest House which has been declared as sub-jail.

The plane carrying Sharif,  and Maryam landed at Lahores Allama Iqbal Airport at 9:15 IST, nearly three hours late from the scheduled arrival.

Maryam posted an emotional picture on Twitter with her children as she left London for Pakistan.

According to an airport official, the father-daughter duo surrendered before a team of the countrys anti-graft body The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) without any resistance.

A special plane later carried Sharif and Maryam to Islamabad. The plane landed at New Islamabad International airport in Islamabad.
