Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Manish Tewari has said that when there is unrest in any northeastern state it affects the entire northeast region and the country. Tewari was apparently  referring  towards the prevailing situation in violence-hit Manipur

The former I&B Minister was speaking in the Lok Sabha during a no-confidence motion debate moved by the I.N.D.I.A bloc against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.

The no-confidence motion was moved by Congress Party MP Gaurav Gogoi on July 26 and was accepted by Speaker Om Birla.

During his address, the Congress MP said, “When this republic of ours was being formed, special provisions were made to connect the border states with India in a stronger and organized way, including Article 370 for Jammu and Kashmir, and Articles 371 A, 371 B, 371 C, 371 F, 371 G, 371 H for Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Sikkim, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh respectively. And because Manipur shares its boundary with Myanmar on one side and with the states of Nagaland, Assam, and Mizoram on the other side. So, when there is any unrest in any northeastern state it affects the entire northeast region and the country.”

“A clear example of this is that because of the unfortunate incidents that have happened in Manipur and are going on even today, calls have been made in Mizoram that the natives of Manipur should leave… I mean to say that when there is any unrest in any northeastern state its negative impact is upon the entire northeast region and the country,” he reiterated.
