New Beginning : First Dalit Sikh, Congress Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi Takes Oath, Two Deputy CM’s Also Named
In a first of sorts for the state, a Dalit Sikh, Charanjit Singh Channi took oath as Chief Minister Of Punjab. Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit administered the oath of office.
Earlier, Chief Minister-designate Charanjeet Singh Channi reached Raj Bhawan for his swearing-in ceremony.
Prominent among those who were present at the oath-taking ceremony were Rahul Gandhi and Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Capt Amarinder Singh, who resigned as chief minister two days back, was conspicuous by his absence.
Channi, a minister in the outgoing Amarinder Singh cabinet, is known to be close to Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu.
It may be recalled that Channi was unanimously elected as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party of Punjab and is set to take over as next chief minister following Captain Amarinder Singh’s resignation.
Congress leader Sukhjinder Randhawa and Brahm Mohindra will be two deputies to Punjab’s Chief Minister-designate Charanjit Singh Channi, said party leader Pawan Kumar Bansal
