Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s government seems to be a mute spectator as in yet another violent day , protesters stormed the residences of two ministers and three MLAs in Manipur’s capital Imphal , demanding justice for the murder of three persons in Jiribam district, police said.

As pre report by PTI, Protests erupted after the discovery of six bodies believed to be those of individuals who went missing in Jiribam district on November 7. The protesters, primarily women, targeted the homes of several MLAs in Imphal, set tyres on fire, and blocked roads. They demanded action against “Kuki insurgents,” who are allegedly responsible for the abduction and killing of the six individuals.

The mob attacks on legislators’ houses prompted the Imphal West administration to impose prohibitory orders in the district for an indefinite period.

After protests erupted in the Meitei-dominated Imphal Valley district, the government of Manipur imposed a curfew and suspended internet services , November 16. According to an order issued by Imphal West District Magistrate Th Kirankumar, the curfew was imposed from 4.30 pm.
The curfew will remain in effect until further notice, according to an official announcement.

According to PTI report, At Khwairamband market, the main market of Manipur, women vendors held a protest rally against the killing, the police said, PTI reported. Demonstrations were also taken out in Bishnupur’s Ningthoukhong and Lamlong in Imphal East.

Congress General Secretary in charge of Communications, Jairam Ramesh took a dig at Prime Minister for not visiting Manipur on post on X as he wrote ,
For next 3 days, we will be spared the non-biological PM’s lie-surplus, dignity-deficit election campaign. He is off on his periodic foreign jaunt, where he will attempt to score domestic political points rather than engage in any pretence of statesmanship.

But why is Mr. Narendra Modi steadfastly refusing to visit the troubled state of Manipur that has been torn apart so tragically since May 2023? His refusal to do so is simply beyond any understanding. The people of Manipur, who have seen and are continuing to experience so much agony and suffering daily, surely deserve such a visit.
