Indians In Ukraine : Government Plans To Fly Out Citizens From Neighbouring Countries ; MEA In Action

Indians stranded in Ukraine, invaded by Russia, will be flown back from neighbouring countries by the government, sources said. The government is organising evacuation flights for Indians in Ukraine, the sources said, adding that the cost will be completely borne by the government.

MEA is taking steps to bring back about 18,000 Indians incl students from Ukraine. As the air space in Ukraine is closed, alternative arrangements are being made for the evacuation of Indian nationals. Central govt will ensure the safety of all Indians, V Muraleedharan, MoS MEA told ANI

Air India is planning to operate two flights to Romanian capital Bucharest on Friday to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine due to a Russian military offensive, senior government officials said.

Indian nationals who have reached the Ukraine-Romania border by road will be taken to Bucharest by officials of the Indian government so that they can be evacuated in the two Air India flights, they added.

The Ukrainian airspace was closed for civil aircraft operations by the country’s authorities on Thursday morning and therefore, the evacuation flights are operating out of Bucharest.

We will handle the evacuation with utmost precaution. Roadways have been mapped out to evacuate Indian nationals from Kyiv and reach safer places, Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla was quoted as saying by ANI
