India have taken a 1-0 lead in the three match ODI series against West Indies. The Men in Blue riding on masterclass ton by Virat Kohli and Skipper Shubman Gill  Gill ( 110) powered to an emphatic 8 wicket win in the encounter played in  Thiruvananthapuram.

Earlier,  India Skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field first . Pt into bat The West Indies gave a good account of themselves  as they posted a  total of 295/7 in their 50 overs.  The openers – John Campbell ( 62 )  and  Justin Greaves a fine ( 101)  gave the side a  flying start putting on 135 for the first wicket when Campbell was the first to go .  The stage was set for a big total . But  the middle -order could not carry the momentum forward.  Keacy Carty ( 13) , Skipper  Shai Hope 12 , Jewel Andrew ( 0), Roston Chase ( 24) , Matthew Forde ( 7) . Amir Jangoo 58 not out scored some useful runs towards the end . Gudakesh Motie  was not out 4 . Whether the total was enough against the pwoerful Indian batting line-up only time would tell .

India Bowling Figures :  Prasidh Krishna 2/60 ( 10 overs), Nitish Kumar Reddy  1/45 ( 5 overs), Gurnoor Brar 0/60 ( 10 overs),  Ravindra Jadeja 0/54 ( 10 overs) , Kuldeep Yadav found is mojo and the guile 4/40 ( 10 overs), Naman Dhir 0/33 ( 5 overs)

In reply , India began with opners Rohit Sharma and Skipper Shubman Gill . The duo put on 74 for the first wicket when Rohit fell for 32 .  Then the chase master  Virat Kohli took over. Showing the intesity and, hunger and passion he is know for Virat raced to yet another hundred his 55th one that too with a six and  became the fastest batsman to reach the 15,000 runs mark. Kohli smashed his ton in just 74 balls. This century marked his 86th hundred across all international formats (30 in Tests, 55 in ODIs, and 1 in T20Is), inching him closer to Tendulkar’s legendary record of 100 international tons.  Kohli  and skipper Shubman Gill stitched a match- winning 151 run- partnership for the second wicket . The duo took the game away from the West Indies.

Gill was out for 110 but Kohli stayed unbeaten with a stunning 139 ( 10 fours, 9 sixes,  88 balls ) , Ruturaj Gaikwad was the other not out batsman at 13 . India  romped home in style by 8 wickets and 50 balls to spare .  India reaching 302/2 in 41.5 overs)
