If Home Ministry Gives Nod, West Bengal Will Soon Be Renamed ‘ Bangla’
In a move that is primarily aimed at climbing the alphabetical sequence of states names in which West Bengal appears last in the list now, the West Bengal Assembly has now passed a resolution to rename the state as ‘Bangla’ in three languages — Bengaii Hindi and English.
The new name will have to wait as the home ministry approval to nod will be required for the resolution to be adopted.
Earlier, the Centre had rejected the state government’s proposals of having three names Bangla (in Bengali), Bengal ( In English ) and Bangal ( In Hindi)
In 2011, CM Mamata Banerjee had proposed name change for West Bengal to Pachim Bango but it was not accepted by the Centre.
