#Gambhir Era Begins : Suryakumar Yadav New T20I Skipper, Hardik Pandya Snubbed ; Rohit Sharma Remains ODI Skipper

The Gautam Gambhir era as Head coach of Team India has begun. The BCCI has now after days of speculations announced T20 and ODI squads for the Sri Lanka series .

In another major decision by the Ajit Agarkar-led national selection committee, T20 batting sensation Suryakumar Yadav was picked as the India T20I captain ahead of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, while Rohit Sharma stays as the captain of the ODI team.

Pandya not only loses out the captaincy in the T20 format but the vice- captaincy too. Shubman Gill who led the Indian team to Zimbabwe is th e new vice- captain in T20I and ODI’s formats

Batting legend Virat Kohli will also return for the ODI series .

The three-match T20I and ODI series in Sri Lanka will be Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment as India’s head coach, replacing batting legend Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended after the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in West Indies.

Shreyas Iyer makes his comeback to the Indian team for the ODI series along with K L Rahul, who has been picked as the second wicketkeeper after Rishabh Pant, who is the lead keeper in both teams.

Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag was a surprise pick in both the T20 and ODI teams as a middle order option, while his Rajasthan Royals team-mates Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal were named in the T20 team.

Ravindra Jadeja does not figure in the ODI team . He had announced retirement for T20I after T20World Cup win.

All-rounders Shivam Dube and Axar Patel also found a place in both teams.

Experienced Jasprit Bumrah got a deserved rest from both the T20I and ODI series, starting on July 27.

Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammed Siraj were picked in both teams, while young pacer Harshit Rana earned his maiden call-up to the Indian ODI team

Among the spinners, Kuldeep Yadav will play only in the ODI series, while leggie Ravi Bishnoi is the lone wrist spinner in the T20 team. Yuzvendra Chahal misses out from both team. While Washington Sundar finds a place in both.
