The wait is finally over. The Election Commission of India has announced the assembly poll dates of Maharashtra and Jharkhand thus ending the long suspense.
The elections for the Assembly elections in Maharashtra will be held in one phase on November 20. Counting will be on November 23. The term of Maharashtra Assembly’s will end on November 26.
Jharkhand polls will be held in two phases on November 13 and 20.
“There are 9.63 crore eligible voters in Maharashtra, while the number of eligible voters in Jharkhand is 2.6 crore,” Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said at a press conference in New Delhi, reported PTI.
Bypolls will also be held in 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats, the CEC said
Bye-elections to 47 assembly seats and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, vacated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, will be held on November 13.
Bypolls to the Kedarnath assembly seat in Uttarakhand and the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra will be held on November 20.
On EC poll dates, NCP-SCP leader Clyde Crasto told ANI , “Finally the dates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections have been announced by the Election Commission of India…We are well-prepared and the Maha Vikas Aghadi is a very strong unit. We have worked for the people and in the Lok Sabha elections, the public proved that they want the Maha Vikas Aghadi to come into power as they voted for us…The public does not want the Mahayuti to come to power…Maharashtra will have a Maha Vikas Aghadi government…”
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray told ANI , “We were waiting for this for the last 2 years. Elections have been announced. We had hoped for justice from the Court but it didn’t happen. We now hope that we will get justice in the court of the people. We have been seeing the loot of Maharashtra for the last 2 years, unemployed youth are everywhere but all the industries and job opportunities are going to Gujarat…The entire Maharashtra knows that the state has been run by Gujarat for the last 2 years. The upcoming Assembly elections, will show that Maharashtra will be run by Maharashtra and will listen only its own voice.”
