#Deafening Silence : 24 Hours Since Court Framed Charges Against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh ; Smriti Irani Presses The Silence Button

Women and child development minister and BJP’s Amethi candidate Smriti Irani come out all guns blazing at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the Sandehkhali issue.

And it has been 24 hours since the Rouse Avenue Court has ordered the ‘framing of charges’ on sexual harassment allegations levelled by several women wrestlers against former WFI Chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and one other accused. But Irani has not spoken a word on the issue .

According to ANI , The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot while passing the order said there is sufficient material against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh to proceed with the sexual harassment of five women wrestlers and with the offence of outraging the modesty of women.

On Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court framing charges against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, wrestler Sakshi Malik told ANI , “This is a step forward to our long struggle. This fight wasn’t for ourselves but for the future generations. What we faced, should not be faced by the younger girls in the game. I welcome the court’s decision. Earlier we were questioned for lack of evidence but now there is adequate evidence. We will fight the case till the accused is punished. Another thing which will not be acceptable to us till the end is that Sanjay Singh remains the President of the Wrestling Federation since he is a close aide of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. We fought against sexual harassment in the federation but the purpose was not solved. With the charges being framed against him, we have hope that there will be no more harassment in wrestling.”

The court found sufficient material to proceed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh under sections 354 and 354 A (IPC). Charges have also been framed against him under section 506 (part 1) on the allegations of two women. However, the court discharged Brij Bhushan from the allegations made by the sixth wrestler, said the court.

Reacting to Brij Bhushan Shran Singh issue by the court, Senior Congress leader and General Secretary in charge of Communications, Jairam Ramesh on X wrote, Rather than holding him accountable, the BJP has rewarded Brij Bhushan’s actions with a Lok Sabha ticket. They have tried to hide behind the fig leaf that the ticket is for his son, but everyone, including Brij Bhushan himself, knows that the ticket is solid proof that Modi-Shah and the entire BJP are fully supporting him.
