#Budget Session : President Droupadi Murmu In Her First Speech Highlights Government’s Achievements And Lays Out The Future Plans

Laying out the government’s vision for building a developed India in the next five years, President Droupadi Murmu has underlined its thrust on ‘virasat’ (heritage) as well as ‘vikas’ (development) and said it has worked for all without any discrimination.

In her first address to the joint sitting of Parliament on the first day of the Budget session, the president said people have been given basic amenities missing for decades and modern infrastructure long aspired for is being built across the country. She cited the expansion of the digital network and the crackdown on corruption during the Modi government’s tenure.

The government has ushered in many positive changes in its nearly nine years in power and the biggest has been that the self confidence of every Indian is at its peak, the president said.

The President also stated in her speech, that the government has been laying constant emphasis on modernising the military as it firmly believes that lasting peace is possible only when India is politically and strategically strong.

Murmu’s comments during her address to the joint session of Parliament on the first day of Budget session came amid India’s lingering border row with China in eastern Ladakh as well as the challenges of Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Without directly mentioning either Pakistan or China, the President, who is also the supreme commander of the armed forces, highlighted that “befitting response” was given to every “misadventure from LoC (Line of Control) to LAC (Line of Actual Control)” .

President Droupadi Murmu said the ‘Garibi hatao’ is not just a slogan anymore under the NDA government and the government is working to have a permanent solution to the problems of the poor and empowering them.

“With complete transparency, more than Rs 27 lakh crores have been provided to crores of people. A World Bank report states that with such schemes and systems India was able to save crores of people from dropping below the poverty line during Covid,” she said.

Addressing the joint sitting of Parliament ahead of the Budget Session, the President highlighted government’s achievements.

Murmur said that the ‘Aspirational districts’ program is now being repeated at the block level, for which, 500 blocks have been identified in the country. The ‘Vibrant villages’ program to develop villages in border areas has also been introduced. she said.

Commenting On the President’s address, Senior Congress leader, Shashi Tharoor told ANI , The President doesn’t contest elections but it looks like BJP govt is conducting its next election campaign through her. The entire speech was an election speech trying to praise the govt for everything it has done and skipping over the bits it hasn’t done so well.
