The Indian Army has issued a statement on China’s aborted incursion bid in Chishul, Ladakh . And it reads :”India is committed to disengagement and de-escalating the situation on the LAC. But China continues to undertake provocative activities to escalate. At no stage has the Indian Army transgressed across the LAC or resorted to use of any aggressive means, including firing.

“In the instant case on 7 September, it was China’s PLA troops who were attempting to close-in with one of our forward positions along the LAC and when dissuaded by own troops, PLA troops fired a few rounds in the air in an attempt to intimidate own troops.”

China has claimed that Indian soldiers fired warning shots after crossing the Line of Actual Control in the south bank of Pangong Lake in Ladakh , days after a series of provocative actions at the LAC by the Chinese army. “The Chinese border guards were forced to take countermeasures to stabilise the situation,” a spokesperson of the People’s Liberation Army said in a report by news agency .

On India China border face-off, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said that the state of the border “cannot be de-linked” from the state of the relations. “If peace and tranquility at the border are not a given then the rest of the relationship cannot be on an upward trajectory. Is the basis for the r/s,” he said. The Foreign Minister further dubbed the situation in eastern Ladakh “very serious”.

The Congress to have reacted to the Indian- China border crisis. Party spokesperson, Jaiveer Shergill hit out at the Centre over the stand-off and said that the “BJP Govt must honestly and clearly brief Nation on chronology of LAC events since April 2020.”

In a tweet, Shergill said that the Centre must not “run the govt like a TV reality show loaded with drama & sensationalism”, but “should acknowledge, accept and address the serious policy cracks in handling of LAC.”
