BJP and the JD(U) had been at loggerheads over the seat sharing arrangement in the state for the Lok sabha polls in 2019 . Now it is learnt from various media reports that both parties have finally clinched deal on the issue.

As per the deal agreed, BJP will contest only 20 seats , while the JD( U) will contest 12, Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) of Upendra Kushwaha will fight the polls in 5 and 2 seats respectively.

According to the Zee News report, the seat-sharing formula was finalised after consultations between BJP president Amit Shah and Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar during the former’s visit to Bihar.

Bihar has 40 Lok Sabha seats. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP, riding on Modi-wave, won 22 seats, LJP won six seats and the RLSP won three seats. Altogether, the NDA won 31 out of the 40 seats in Bihar in 2014. JD (U), which could manage just 2 seats in 2014, was then not part of the NDA then.
