Bhima Koregaon Probe : House Arrest Of Five Activists Extended Two Days By Supreme Court

The Supreme court which is hearing the Bihma Koregaon violence of 2017 has in its latest hearing has extended the house arrest of five activists for two days.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra extended till September 19 the house arrest of the five rights activists — Varavara Rao, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves, Sudha Bharadwaj and Gautam Navlakha — at their respective homes.

The bench also assured the activists that if there are lapses on the part of the people who got them arrested then they would consider setting by a special Investigation team for the said purpose.

Moreover, a plea by Thapar and others who had sought independent investigation into whole matter and wanted immediate release of the activists .

The arrest of the activists had sparked off widespread protests and political parties. many have seen these arrests as way to curb dissent .
