BCCI Announces Test Team For Two Tests Against West Indies ; Shubman Gill Captain, Ravindra Jadeja Deputy; Karun Nair Axed

The BCCI has announced the Indian team for the Two Test against West Indies starting on October 2  . The Ajit Agarkar led selection  panel had no hesitation in naming  Shubman Gill as Captain. Ravindra Jadeja will be his Deputy.

Addressing the media in Dubai, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar revealed that Devdutt Padikkal returns to the Test squad on the back of some commendable form.

‘Padikkal has been in the Test squad. He played in Australia, then in Dharamsala, got a fifty there. Has shown decent form for India A,’ Agarkar said.

Talismanic wicket-kepper batsman Rishabh Pant is yet to recover from injury and hence misses out the series.

Karun Nair  who had an opportunity to cement his place in the Test side pays the price  for not converting/ getting big scores in the Tendulkar- Anderson series  and hence was dropped . A move that certainly ends his Test career for Team India.

The series gets underway in Ahmedabad on October 2, with the second Test taking place in Delhi from October 10.

This marks India’s first Test action since the dramatic 2-2 draw for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England.

India currently sit third in the World Test Championship standings, behind Australia and Sri Lanka, despite having played more matches. A strong home performance could prove crucial to bolstering their WTC campaign.

Japrit Bumrah whose workload has been matter of much debate will be available for both the Tests it is learnt .
