As Mukul Roy Returns To TMC, BJP And Amit Shah Get Taste Of Their Own Medicine
After it miserably failed to win its much hyped Mission West Bengal and its slogan abki baar 200 paar slogan crashing like pack of cards, the BJP has now suffered a major embarrassment. In a dramatic political twist it’s national Vice President Mukul Roy along with son Subhranshu, rejoined Trinamool Congress . He was welcomed back into the party fold by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and senior party leaders. Roy had left TMC in 2017.
Roy’s return now seriously threatens BJP’s plans to expand in the state. As saffron party now fears other turncoats too might go back to the TMC. It is no longer Khela hobe for BJP in Bengal and in the near future other leaders like Roy who joined the BJP are mulling over possible return to TMC then it is surely Khela shesh for the BJP. The TMC it may be recalled against all odds won the David vs Goliath face-off in spectacular fashion defying all poll predictions of a tight contest. It won 213 seats against BJPs 77 seats.
And keeping up the aggressive stance against the BJP after Mukul Roy’s return , West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sent out a warning when she said, More people will come (from BJP). Whenever the info comes, we’ll let you know. We are not considering those who criticised the party & betrayed before election, for BJP, for money. We’ll only consider people who are gentle, sober & don’t go for bitterness.

The return of Mukul Roy to TMC from BJP is big blow to BJP and Home Minister Amit Shah. After all in recent times BJP had openly welcomed leaders from other parties who were very critical of the party into their fold – likes of Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Suvendu Adhikari , Naresh Chandra Agrawal, Jitin Prasada and earlier Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jaya Prada among others.
And the party then went gung-ho about leaders joining the saffron brigade. Now to see leaders like Roy dumping the BJP to rejoin TMC is a bitter pill to swallow. Clearly BJP which always enjoyed leaders quitting other parties to join them are now getting a taste of their own medicine in Bengal,
It may be recalled the despite losing the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh in 2018, BJP exploited simmering differences among Congress leaders Kamal Nath Digvijaya Singh and Jyotiraditya Scindia and plotted to bring down the government. A visibly miffed Scindia seeing his future role bleak switched over to the BJP with 21 of his loyal MLA’s and brought down the Congress government of Kamal Nath.
Scindia was promptly rewarded with a Rajya Sabha stint as Shivraj Singh Chouhan became Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister yet again. The channels then went on overdrive lauding BJP’s masterstroke and Amit Shah’s astute political acumen to pull off the impossible . There was even a saying among political pundits that if BJP falls short of numbers in assemblies no need to worry . The party has Amit Shah. This was the confidence and the bravado .
And Mukul Roy after rejoining TMC took a jibe at the BJP when he said , I have joined TMC today. In the present circumstances, no one will stay in Bharatiya Janata Party . Pointing out clearly how horribly wrong was BJP’s ambitious mission West Bengal was. The onus now is on the BJP to hold their party together in West Bengal.
Lastly, BJP could well remember that they are up against a combative street fighter” chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is a seasoned politician in her own inimitable way. Just like she made the once mighty Left bite the dust in polls and ousted them after 34 years, she has proved that BJP under Modi-Shah can be beaten and in their very own game as well.
