India riding on a superb first T20I ton by Skipper Shreyas Iyer beat West Indies by 8 wickets in the first match of the five- match series in Lucknow . Earlier , Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to field first.
The West Indies with Skipper Shai Hope and debutant Kamil Pooran looked good at the beginning racing to 38/1 in 4.3 overs wgen Kamil fell for 12 . Hapoe on the other hand continued his impressive form with the bat smashing a fine 52 ( 37 balls , 5 fours, 2 sixes) .
There was a wobble for the West Indies in the middle order as they lost quick wickets to hand India the advantage – Shimron Hetmyer run out for 5, Rovman Powell out for 0 , Roston Chase 5, Romario Shepherd 7 , Matthew Forde 2 , Shamar Springer 9, Akeal Hosein 15.
West Indies battled to reach 171/10 in 19.1 overs thanks to a fine innings by Sherfane Rutherford 56 ( 34 balls , 6 fours , 3 sixes) towards the end . Shamar Joseph remained not out 0
India Bowling : Arshdeep Singh 1/34 ( 4 overs), Mayank Yadav 1/40 ( 4 overs) was listless spraying ball all over , Axar Patel 2/26 ( 3.1 overs), Kuldeep Yadav 2/33 ( 4 overs) , Naman Dhir 3/31 ( 4 overs)an impressive debut spell
In reply to West Indies total of 171. India lost opener Sanju Samson who looked set for big one after racing to 21 ( 1o balls 3 fors, 1 six) but he could carry on . Abhishek Sharma was out cheaply for 11 . But the partnership of 137 runs an unbeaten one by Skipper Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan took the game away from the West Indies.
